Gobies are very nice fellows and, as for myself, I prefer to take photos of them to eating them.
It is usually quite easy to approach them because they very often lay too much trust in their good camouflage. They enjoy lying in the afternoon Sun until sunset. If something makes them move away from their favourite stone, you should wait for a little while because they are very likely to return to the same stone after they have performed a couple of maneuvers. Nevertheless, if you intrude too roughly on their well
deserved siesta, they may disappear forever. That is when they become impossible to find – in such case, you are advised to stop wasting your time and swim on.
There are many species of gobies of all sizes and shapes in the Black Sea. I have read that they are protected species, but I never found out exactly what they are protected against. I guess whatever is protecting them was not able to save the poor fellows from the saucepans of the restaurants by the sea.
